Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant is possibly the largest construction project in Europe... and it's right on our doorstep. When completed, it will remain operational for 80 years. There’s been much controversy about it, not least the Chinese involvement. However, it’s all systems go. Construction cranes crowd the skyline, including the largest one in Europe at its centre. It will be interesting to see history in the making.
We convene at the dedicated Park & Ride car park (TA5 2JA) for all staff & visitors by 09:30. The car park is apparently good, large and secure. We will be parked in a quiet corner. We will start at the interactive visitor centre at Cannington Lodge to get a sense of the project and then be taken on a tour by minibus around the site.
Security is understandably tight, so they ask us to bring photo ID - either a modern photo driving license or valid passport. They also need to know full name, nationality and date of birth.
The maximum number of people they can host is 30, so book early!
There is no cost for the tour. However, they appreciate a charity donation (details tbc).
After the tour, we will have lunch at Blackmore Farm Café, Blackmore Farm, Cannington, Bridgwater TA5 2NE at about 1pm.
We will be in the Great Hall of the Manor House which looks and sounds lovely (as opposed to the also lovely café there).
I will come back to everyone registered to attend regarding payment, menu choices, etc.
